Project Management Process Group are  overlapping activities that occur at different levels of focus and intensity throughout the project.

Process Groups are linked by the objectives they produce in the phase of the project.

Five Project Management Process  Groups:

bulletInitiating Process Group - authorizing the project or phase
bulletPlanning Process Group - define and refine objectives and scope the project
bulletExecuting Process Group - integrate people and other resources to carry out tasks stated in project plan
bulletMonitoring and Controlling Process Group - Measure and monitor progress; identify variance and make corrective actions
bulletClosing Process Group - formal acceptance of project and document of lesson learnt

 

Remember the process groups may be iterated several times during any phase throughout the project life cycle.
